Get your toaster clean with this simple trick

Where would we be without toasters? This is one appliance many of us use everyday, and have done for as long as we can remember. It’s an appliance so familiar that we don’t even think about it. It’s just there, making our breakfast everyday, browning toast to perfection, and occasionally setting off the smoke alarms.

Some people keep them hidden away in cupboards, only brought out to do their job and then quickly hidden away again, while others keep them out on the bench on display. They come in all sizes and colours, and all price tags too, from super cheap $5 ones to ones costing hundreds, but they all serve the same function.

For something that is used to cook food everyday, it’s something that is properly cleaned very rarely, if at all. This is most likely because it’s pretty difficult to clean. It’s insides are quite delicate, and of course, it can’t be washed with water like most things in our kitchens can be.

The worst part is that when they’re choked up with crumbs, they start to burn and cause smoke.

There is a genius solution to this though, which will help you get your toast clean on the inside and looking like new. All you need to do is use a pastry brush to sweep the crumbs out of the racks and burners at the sides of the slots! It’s simple, and safe. You should of course unplug your toaster before any cleaning, but pastry brushes are mostly wooden or plastic.

Once you’ve brushed all the crumbs out, remove the crumb tray and give it a good clean, the turn your toaster upside down to get any excess crumbs. Wipe over the outside, and it’s as good as new!
