What pisses me off? Hair…

Aug 11, 2013

I’ve got in interesting story for ‘What pisses me off today’… tell me if you have grappled with something similar?

Should Angelina get a haircut?  How about Catherine Zeta Jones?

My hair is long. Rather long, actually. I have thickish hair, wavy, about 30% grey. I could be fibbing about the grey percentage.

Actually I am fibbing about the ‘long’ bit too. It WAS long, till quite recently. I liked the fact that I could avoid hairdressers, tie it up out of my way, luxuriate just a little in the softness, the ‘feel’ of it. Then the whim came and I had it cut.  Not viciously, but about to chin level. As I left the salon everyone, including the receptionists exhorted me, “Now don’t let it get long again”!

Now there may be an element of self interest in this. For business reasons, of course, but is there something more to their pleas?

It seems not everyone  approves of women of a certain age retaining their locks.

For goodness sake, get over it! How many people, usually women, disapprove of older women with long hair?  Lots, it seems.  You won’t get this attitude from younger women, but women of my age and over seem to feel that once a woman hits 40, it is time to go short. Probably very short.

The way I see it, and I am always right of course, is that this is tied up with sexuality. Long hair has this sexy image, you see, and heaven help the older woman who exhibits sexuality! Well I reserve the right to sexuality at any age!

I would also argue that there are lots of women with very short hair who are still appealing, yes, in a sexual way. Judi Dench looks fabulous with short hair!  In fact I will cut out a picture of her to take with me to the next hair dressing appointment. I have booked one, you see, for June 2020.  What about Jamie Lee Curtis?  She is stunning, and yes, has short hair. So let’s face it, cutting your hair short will NOT mean you suddenly become an unappealing, asexual individual. It doesn’t work!

It is irrelevant. The length of your hair, that is. If I want long hair when I am 90, sod it, long hair I will have! As for sexuality, well, long or short, it can swing both ways.

Tell me what you think… Short or long  and at what age do you think a woman should have shorter hair?
