You don’t always have to find the best skin treatments at your local chemist.

Sometimes they are found in your kitchen pantry. All it takes is mixing a few ingredients together and you have an old-fashioned all-natural remedy for all sorts of ailments and effects.

To get your skin into tip-top shape a facial steam is unbeatable. It’s not just for colds, it is a great cleansing and lubricating remedy for your face.

Try this remedy for mature, dry or sallow skin to get the best pick-me-up ever.

Ingredients

1 litre of boiling water.

1 cup of fresh elderflowers or lemon verbena.

You will also need a towel and a large cooking bowl.

Variations

If you have oily skin, try a cup of fresh calendula petals, eucalyptus, rosemary, sage or fennel. 

For sensitive skin try a cup of lavender, chamomile, rose petals, fresh spearmint or peppermint.

Method

Wash your face the prepare the mix.

Pour the boiling water over a cup of tightly packed herbs, and let it brew for a few minutes.

Put your face above the steam bowl and cover your head with the towel.

The steam will penetrate the skin and open your pores.

Come up for a breath every so often.

Once six to ten minutes is up (no longer) finish with a splash of tepid water and pat dry.

 

It’s not only good for your skin, it’s a great way to have a bit of time out and relax.

Repeat once a week or two, for great looking skin.
