Headache remedies for when you’re on the go

Remedies that are perfect for people on the go.

If popular remedies for headaches aren’t working for you then give these DIY solutions a try. These easy remedies are the perfect alternative for when pain killers aren’t doing the trick anymore.

Headaches can strike any time and any where so this list focusses on things you can do when you’re on the go and don’t have the time to nap for half an hour or lie still with an icepack.

Don’t forget to avoid headaches by staying hydrated and getting a healthy amount of sleep each night.

1. Freeze gel

If you are just about to leave home and you can feel oncoming head pains then freeze gel is a quick and easy alternative for an icepack. Rub in cooling gel to your temples and the back of your neck for pain relief on the go. You can even take a travel sized tube in your bag for a headache cure no matter where you are.

2. Acupressure

When headaches strike at the most inconvenient times you don’t always have access to painkillers or cold packs, which is why this DIY tip is always good to know. By using acupressure on one body part, you can eliminate pain in another body part.

Use your forefinger and thumb to gently squeeze the pressure point, or Hoku point, which is located in the webbing between the forefinger and thumb on your hand. Squeeze for one minute with light to medium pressure. The Hoku point is a natural pain reliever and can also relieve joint and muscle pain.

3. Caffeine

Tea and coffee are proven to open blood vessels and reduce swelling. If you’re running errands with a pounding headache then try stopping for a quick coffee for a more enjoyable pain relief.

4. Stretching and light exercise

Sitting down all day and looking at a computer or phone screen can often be the cause of headaches and body pains. Give your eyes a break and get up for a walk. This will help with blood circulation and reduce tension. Also try stretching your neck gently and slowly in circular motions to relieve any built up tension.
