Those spots on your bananas aren’t so bad after all

While brown spots on a banana might turn you off they actually can mean that the banana is better for you! The brown banana has high nutritional benefits as they have a higher level of antioxidants than yellow or green bananas. Antioxidants help protect your body against disease-causing inflammation.

Additionally, the resistant starch will have almost completely transformed into sugar in brown bananas. Due to the banana being mostly sugar it becomes easier to digest. So brown bananas are specifically good for people with digestive ailments, including irritable bowel or functional abdominal bloating.

Please note, however, there is a point when bananas are too ripe and no longer good for you. Be wary of them if they smell, are really squishy or are leaking mold.
