The verdict is in: Amber Heard fined for bringing her dogs into Australia

Actress Amber Heard has been ordered to pay a $1000 good behaviour bond for bringing her two Yorkshire terriers into Australia.

She was joined in court by her husband Johnny Depp as she pleaded guilty to producing a false document to Australian customs officials.

Ms Heard’s lawyer said she had unknowingly given the incorrect documents to customs officials and now just wanted to get the case over and done with and move on.

Earlier, two charges of illegally importing animals were dismissed.

The original charges carried a sentence of a maximum 10 years in prison and a $102,000 fine if convicted.

Magistrate Bernadette Callaghan handed down her verdict in the Southport Magistrates court this afternoon deciding on a considerably reduced punishment.

While Ms Heard and Mr Depp are no doubt thrilled with the results, many Australians believe they should have had to pay more and suffer the consequences of breaking our strict quarantine laws.

The court was shown a video of Ms Heard and Mr Depp, which they recorded earlier, saying they were deeply sorry for what they had done.

Barnaby Joyce shared the video on his Facebook page, saying we can’t take the risk when it comes to quarantine issues.

Mr Joyce famously kicked up a fuss about the issue when it first came to light, publicly blasting the couple for flouting the law.

There have been suggestions the couple was let off due to their celebrity status, with many saying it’s just another case of famous people getting away with breaking the law.
