Tennis star leaves court in tears after captain launches abuse

Massive shakeup in the Tennis world after a “disgraceful” act by now-former Captain of the Romanian Fed Cup.

During a match that pitted England’s Johanna Konta against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea where Konta was leading Cirstea, Ilie Nastase launched into a tirade against the players and officials before being removed from the court.

It’s being reported that Nastase yelled at the umpire, “What’s your f***ing problem?” before calling Konta and British Captain Anne Keothavong “f***ing b***es”. The act halted play as Konta was in tears and had to leave the court to collect herself. Court referee Andreas Egli sent Nastase off the court for “unsportsmanlike conduct” but he was then escorted back to the locker room.

International Tennis Federation President David Haggerty released a statement saying “This is unacceptable behaviour bay a Fed Cup Captain.” He adds, “No player, official, member of the media or fan should have to endure any kind of abuse, and Mr Nastase will rightly play no further part in this tie.”

Sorana Cirstea was not happy about the situation saying to the press, “Johanna, speaking tennis wise, she was better than me today. My problem was, and I still do not understand, why the match was stopped at 2-1.

“I did not hear what Ilie said, I understand you take Ilie out, perfect. Then we play another game, I win it, and then suddenly you started crying and let’s go off the court.

“I’ve played all over the world, they called me from gypsy to bitch to a***hole to idiot. They were doing like (mimes slitting throat) to me. I never cried and left the court, I stay there and I play.”

This comes after another controversy by Nastase where he made alleged racist marks against Serena Williams and her unborn child during a press conference.
