Finding your way around a computer is one thing… discovering there are easier ways to do things is another.
Here are a few keyboard shortcut keys that might make your life a little easier.
If you use your computer a lot, chances are you know most of these functions on your keyboard already, but there may be one or two you didn’t know.
Ctrl X will cut the highlighted text.
Ctrl C will copy the highlighted text.
Ctrl V will paste the copied or cut text into the space where the cursor is.
Ctrl F will bring up a search option to find a word.
Ctrl P will bring up the print options.
Ctrl S will save the current document.
Ctrl Z will undo the last action.
Ctrl Home goes to the start of the document.
Ctrl End goes to the end.
Shift F3 changes highlighted text from uppercase to lowercase.
F5 refreshes the internet browser. This is useful if you are waiting for updates and want the latest information asap.
F7 can generate spellcheck in some programs, such as Word.
F11 can minimise and maximise your internet browser.
Apple users can still do most of these actions by pressing Command in replace of the Ctrl button.
Here are a few extras:
Command Q is the quit command to fully exit out of a program.
Command T opens a new tab in your web browser.
Command shift F3 does a screenshot of your whole screen.
Command shift F4 brings up an icon to do a selective screenshot. Click and drag, when you let go the image will save to your desktop.
Command H hides the current active window.
Command Shift Delete empties your trash, once you have opened it.
Command Spacebar opens the Spotlight application for searches.
