Susan Sarandon shows why you never need to ‘dress your age’

Susan Sarandon has never let age dictate her wardrobe choices.

It wouldn’t be an easy look for any woman to pull off, but Susan Sarandon somehow makes it work.

The 70-year-old actress went for a quirky look when she attended the Prada resortwear show in Milan, Italy, at the weekend, coupling three-quarter length black trousers with what looked like a retro bowling shirt, thick-soled sneakers and a long leather jacket. She sat alongside rock chick Courtney Love at the high-end fashion show.

Italian designer Miuccia Prada is one of the most powerful designers in the fashion world, and the chunky sneakers, or creepers, as they’re known, are one of her long-running looks – she’s known for creating the ‘ugly-pretty’ shoes favoured by high-fashion fans.

But Sarandon is known for her unusual take on fashion, often picking outfits that wouldn’t look out of place on a woman 50 years her junior.

Her famously beautiful cleavage, often on show (below), was under wraps in Milan, however.

The actress if firmly of the belief that fashion should be fun, and says she gets tired of seeing runway models look grumpy.

“The thing that bothers me is when I see runway shows with these young women who are wearing fabulous clothes that are gorgeous and they look so unhappy. When did that start?” she told refinery29.com last year. “I don’t know what’s happened where that’s an idea of beauty. That’s the kind of thing you shouldn’t be selling — this idea that if you’re so gorgeous and too skinny and wearing fabulous everything, you’re pissed off.”

Do you agree that high fashion is way too serious?
