September 5 is a day to honour Danish military veterans and personnel who have served abroad, and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Princess Mary have joined those paying their respects.

Known as Danish Flag day, or flag-flying day, this event was celebrated in the country for the very first time in 2009.

The royal couple are regulars at the event, and attended again this year, looking both stylish and solemn, with Fred, 49, looking dashing in his military uniform and 45-year-old Mary a vision in black and white, including an oversized hat and a silver brooch pinned on her black long-length Prada coat.

While the day is now celebrated in different ways all throughout the country, the official events include a wreath laying at the monument, to represent Denmark’s international effort since 1948 at the Citadel (Kastellet), a memorial service in honour of the fallen in Holmens Church, followed by a parade at Christiansborg castle square for personnel that have been deployed during the last year.

The Parliament (Folketinget) concludes the official program by hosting a reception for the participants of the parade.

Earlier this week Mary wore another light coloured dress to the Carlsberg Foundation’s research prize ceremony. On that occasion it was more of a fun Grecian Goddess look.

What do you think of Mary’s outfit on this official occasion?
