Nicole Kidman’s dress divides critics as celebrities stun at SAG awards

Nicole Kidman as she attended the 24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) awards is known as the stepping stone towards Oscars glory. It also gives our favourite celebrities another opportunity to pull out all the stops with fantastic gowns and glamorous style.

While there were plenty of gorgeous dresses on display, Aussie golden girl Nicole Kidman stood out on the red carpet in a long-sleeved brown sequined dress with a swirl of material elegantly gathered over the shoulder. She paired the incredible dress with crystal earrings and rings, strappy brown heals and a charm bracelet.

She was accompanied by her husband Keith Urban, who looked sharp in a classic black tuxedo and couldn’t help showing his affection for Kidman with a few pecks on the cheek

Kidman’s successful awards season run continued inside where she won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for her role as an abused housewife in the HBO drama, Big Little Lies. Upon receiving the award, Kidman became emotional and said, “to receive this at this stage of my life is extraordinary. It means a lot to me … I’m incredibly nervous because this is reality colliding with fantasy right now”.

Kidman and Urban weren’t the only cute couple to walk the red carpet looking fabulous. Film veteran Goldie Hawn looked stunning in a light blue gown and was joined by her daughter Kate Hudson. Hawn looked fresh-faced alongside Hudson, who wore a unique, frilled pink-and-black gown. Unfortunately, Hudson’s gown has already made its way onto many ‘worst dressed’ lists, while Hawn’s has been lauded as one of the best. Perhaps mother knows best in this case.

Two pals who amped up the glamour were Susan Sarandon and Gina Davis. Sarandon looked sultry in a dark-blue sequined gown that showed off her famous curves and finished her outfit with a pair of retro-inspired sunglasses and glamorous pink lipstick. Davis opted for a form-fitting strapless black gown paired with silver drop earrings and exuded elegance with rouged cheeks and dark-red lipstick.

While Kidman and Urban are known for stealing the show when it comes to PDA cuteness; Felicity Huffman and husband William H. Macy gave them a run for their money with a number of light-hearted, amorous displays. Huffman looked stunning in a plunging, black velvet gown, accessorised with elegant crystal jewellery.

Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen also looked cozy on the red carpet. Steenburgen wore a forest green dress with matching earrings and a gold cuff bracelet. She accessorised her look with a pair of multi-coloured shoes and a brown clutch bag. Danson looked sharp in a tailored suit.

Also opting for a green gown, Reese Witherspoon oozed elegance with old-school Hollywood glamour. Channeling Lauren Bacall, she wore her hair to the side and sizzled with a peachy make-up look.

Attending the awards for her role in the critically acclaimed film The Shape of Water, Sally Hawkins brightened the room with a ’70s-inspired jumpsuit. The multi-coloured design and striped symmetrical lines really made her stand out from the crowd.
