Meryl Streep is known across the globe for her show-stopping acting abilities, but she’s proving that she’s also a style icon this awards season. With many celebrities opting for futuristic looks on the red carpet, Meryl is taking things back a few decades.

In fact, the 68-year-old’s latest look appears to be inspired by the 1980s – something her Devil Wears Prada character Miranda Priestly would be proud of. While attending the 90th Annual Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, the award-winning star brought back ruffles in a big way.

The cream long-sleeve number featured six huge ruffles that fell from top to bottom.

The star paired the subtle shade of cream with sheer black stockings and a smart pair of black heels. Meryl also opted to keep her makeup minimal for the ceremony and wore her blonde locks down at the event.

Her latest look comes just days after she attended yet another glamorous Hollywood event. On Saturday, she was honoured by the Society of Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Awards in a ceremony held at the prestigious Loews Hollywood Hotel.

Her outfit for the occasion was a far cry from her 80s-inspired dress, opting instead for a black-and-gold frock with intricate beading across the neckline.

Meryl is nominated for her 21st Academy Award this year, this time for her work on the Steven Spielberg drama The Post. Despite being nominated so many times, she was forced to laugh off a seniors moment about her award show memory on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The show’s host played a game with Meryl to see how many of her Oscar-nominated films she could actually remember. Despite winning three Oscars in the past, she failed miserably at the game, only able to name The French Lieutenant’s Woman, Kramer Vs. Kramer, Silkwood and Sophie’s Choice.

She joked about the awkward moment, telling Jimmy, “Oh God. See, I can’t remember last Thursday. I can remember the olden days.” Surprisingly, she wasn’t even able to recall her first ever Oscar-nominated film, which was actually The Deer Hunter.

What do you think of Meryl’s fashion? Are these looks something you’d wear, or would you opt for something else on a night out?
