Let’s Talk: Can you ever be too old to wear this?

For a lot of younger people, it’s hard to imagine their grandma wearing six inch heels.

But as some older women have shown, you can never be too old to wear them.

One older woman who has made no secret of her love of high heel shoes is Helen Mirren.

She told Woman & Home magazine that she loves to wear stripper heels, and if you’re a shorter woman, then you’ll be able to relate to why she does.

“I always wear stripper shoes because it’s pretty intimidating to find yourself in a room full of incredibly beautiful women who are at least a foot taller than you,” she told the magazine, according to Vanity Fair.

Dame Helen comes in at just 5 foot 4 – but looking at her in photos on the red carpet you wouldn’t believe it!

It’s not the first time she’s opened up about wearing heels as an older woman.

In 2010 she told Woman & Home magazine that at one stage she was  actually buying her heels from stripper shops.

“I used only to be able to get them in stripper shops, but now you can buy them everywhere—although, unfortunately, that means everyone else has discovered the trick too,” she said.

And in 2010 she also told Jay Leno that wearing stripper heels gave her “an immediate seven inches”.

While there are some people who would say high heels might not be age appropriate, there are plenty who would disagree.

We asked some of our SAS readers what they thought about high heels as a fashion choice for older women, and most of them were all for it!

“If you have great legs, show them off. Age doesn’t matter,” Linda Nowitzke Naimo wrote.

Gail Marshall said her mother wore high heels right up until she was 80, while Shirley Walden wrote that if you’re comfortable in heels, then you should wear them at any age.

Imagine how sore Dame Helen would be after a night walking around in high heels?
