Fashion is a fickle game and history has taught us it’s only a matter of time before what’s old is new again. That appears to be the case for one of the most iconic looks from the 1970s — the kaftan — and we’ve got Goldie Hawn to thank for its comeback.

Hawn, 72, is no stranger to a bold outfit and the adored actress sported one of her most flattering yet on Tuesday, with a wild ’70s-inspired colourful kaftan.

The floor-length kaftan featured an assorted mix of patterns, including flowers, tribal prints, geometric shapes and stripes. Goldie kept her accessories simple opting for a gold pair of hoop earrings and a coordinating necklace.

The gorgeous bohemian style was reminiscent of the classic ’70s looks made famous by ‘It girls’ Olivia De Havilland and Lucille Ball.

And who doesn’t love a great throwback? It’s no secret kaftans were all the craze in the ’70s. Lightweight and flowy, kaftans are incredibly comfy to wear and can take you from day-to-night with a simple change of shoes and jewellery. The best part is, they compliment all body shapes while still looking stylish and glamorous.

The much-loved kaftan came in a range of fabrics, from silk to wool, and it seemed everyone had one hanging in their wardrobe! An array of celebrities and personalities have sported them over the years.

Adored British actress Olivia De Havilland donned a colourful kaftan in 1971, while on a dinner date with the late former British Prime Minister Edward Heath.
