The Duchess of Cambridge has become patron of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the Nursing Now campaign, a global initiative to raise the status and profile of nurses.

The 36-year-old will be just the second patron of the RCOG, as the position was formerly held by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who passed away at the age of 101 in 2002.

The two new patronages were announced ahead of Catherine’s visit to the ROCG and to St Thomas’ Hospital in London on Tuesday, where the Duchess officially launched the Nursing Now campaign.

Kensington Palace announced the news this morning via social media.

Catherine, wearing a two-piece, military-style navy dress and coat, visited both organisations to learn more about the global health work.

The duchess wore her beautiful brunette locks down for the outing, matching a sensible pair of black suede pumps with sheer tights, a coordinating clutch, a blue necklace and matching earrings.

The pregnant royal looked to be in excellent spirits as she chatted to staff at the ROCG this morning. During her visit, Catherine shared an emotional embrace with Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent, one of the midwives who helped to deliver her daughter Princess Charlotte.

The mother-to-be was presented with flowers by five-year-old Bella Kedwell-Parsons, whose sister is a patient on the children’s ward at St Thomas’ hospital.

Nursing Now is a global campaign aimed at raising the profile and status of nursing worldwide.
