Winter is coming and the Duchess of Cornwall has never been more ready.

Camilla and Prince Charles stepped out at Ascot Racecourse on Friday and with the mercury dropping below 8C, the pair wisely chose to rug up against the nippy British air.

While Charles kept it simple in a classic camel overcoat, Camilla took things up a notch with an incredible fur hat, tartan coat and knee-high boots that gave the impression she was ready to fight a snow storm and come out on top.

She completed her snug look with black gloves and a cream scarf to keep the winter chill away from her neck.

The pair mingled with punters at the Prince’s Countryside Fund’s Racing Weekend at Ascot and appeared to have a ball chatting with racegoers and meeting the horses.

The Duchess’ love of horses is well known and she is patron for the British Equestrian Federation.

Both she and Charles also enjoy riding in their free time and regularly attend polo matches along with the rest of the royal family.

The Prince’s Countryside Fund was launched by Charles in 2010 to improve the prospects of family farm businesses and the quality of rural life in England.

Each year the fund provides millions in grants to projects across the UK as well as running its own initiatives such as the Prince’s Farm Resilience Programme.

Throughout its partnership with the Ascot Racecourse, the fund has raised more than $A1,260,000 for farmers and their families.
