French first lady Brigitte Macron strayed slightly from her usual tailored jacket and simple dress ensemble as she stepped out in a striking metallic number for an outing with husband President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday.
The 65-year-old, who is known for being somewhat of a fashion icon, looked lovely as she posed for photos alongside her husband during a visit from Japan’s Crown Prince Naruhito. The former school teacher chose a shiny lilac dress for the occasion, reminiscent of the mod-styles favoured in the 1960s.
While the colour was bolder than her previous looks, which usually sway towards block colours and plenty of black, Brigitte further livened her look with matching silver stilettos, bangles and dangly earrings.
Meanwhile, her president husband looked dapper in a dark blue suit, white shirt and tie, while Prince Naruhito looked smart in a navy suit with blue tie as the trio posed together at the Chateau de Versailles.
The French first couple has enjoyed hosting a series of high-profile guests in Paris since President Macron came to power in May, 2017. While they’ve triumphed on the political stage, their private life has proved to be just as intriguing to the rest of the world, having married in 2007, after meeting when then 16-year-old Emmanuel was a student in his future wife’s high school drama class.
While their family has mostly stayed quiet on their relationship, Brigitte’s daughter, Tiphaine Auzière, recently opened up on the impact her mother’s love affair had on her as a child.
Tiphaine, now 34, was nine when her mother fell in love with the schoolboy Emmanuel. Tiphaine described to a France 3 documentary Brigitte Macron: A French Novel how she remembered noticing the clear attraction between her mum and the student.
“They were quite smitten and it was quite obvious between them and very difficult,” The Times reports Tiphaine as saying in the documentary. Brigitte already knew of Emmanuel because he was in the same class as Tiphaine’s older sister, Laurence.
The documentary, which Brigitte herself declined to appear in, reportedly includes testimonies from 65-year-old Brigitte’s friends, former students and even fellow teachers. Home videos and photographs were also used to tell Brigitte’s story, which included the first time her family found out about her relationship with Emmanuel.
