So your main objective as this stage is to do everything you can to replenish moisture.

If you’ve had the same skincare routine for the past 30 or 40 years, it maybe time to revisit some of the steps and identify what needs to be changed.

Here are some tips to help you care for your skin.

Wash Your Face Less
Yes, this may sound odd, but, due to the lack of oil that your skin is producing on its own, you’ll need to take extra precautions to retain moisture. According to Livestrong, since washing your face actually removes moisture from the skin, cut back on the frequency with which you cleanse. In the morning, rather than scrubbing, simply splash your face with cold water to feel refreshed and then in the evening simply wash your face once with an oil-based cleanser.

Load Up On Sunscreen
We’ve been told to be sun safe all our lives so it’s no secret that the sun is harmful for your skin. Not only is our skin starting to dry out naturally, the sun can also exacerbate the dryness. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen daily to protect your skin, and consider using an SPF of 60 or higher. If you plan on being outdoors for a long time, wear a hat to shade your face and neck.

Exfoliate Regularly

The process of renewing skin cells slows down as you age, so in your 60s, exfoliating becomes very important to speed this process along. Exfoliate two to three times per week to remove dried out and dead skin cells from your face as this rejuvenates the face and allows new, healthy skin cells to grow as well as helps to maximise the benefits of your moisturising products.

Use Oil-Based Moisturiser
If you did not make a habit of moisturising regularly when you were younger, now is the time to start. Apply an oil-based serum twice a day and choose something that contains botanical extracts, such as shea butter as these ingredients will give your skin an extra dose of hydration and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
