It’s Melbourne Cup day again and that means champaign, punting and plenty of fabulous fashion!

Ladies and gents from all over the country donned their best attire as they arrived at Flemington Racecourse this morning ahead of the big race, flooding the venue in a sea of colour.

While Darby Day and Ladies Day usually garner more demure races fashions, all bets are off on the biggest day of the Spring Carnival, with punters going above and beyond to outdo each other with weird, wild and wonderful outfits.

Hats and headpieces were the order of the day and it was the wilder the better! 

As always there were plenty of celebrities in attendance, including Lleyton and Bec Hewitt, Jennifer Hawkins and even Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris, but it was the ‘everyday’ ladies who stole the show this year with handcrafted hats and extravagant headpieces.

This year’s theme appeared to be ‘anything goes’ with everything from feathers and flowers to spirals and a built-in eye mask making an appearance.
