Six tips to make your shower more organised

Try these ideas to avoid this situation.

Sick of bottles lined up on the shower floor?

Showers never have enough storage for the various shampoos, conditioners, treatments, shower gel, soap, combs, sponges, wash cloths, razors, scrubs… and the list goes on and on. Even if you’re lucky enough to have a shower with built in recesses, they are rarely big enough to hold all the necessities, and the wire shower caddies you can buy were clearly not invented by a person who has taken a shower before.

Don’t despair though; here’s a list of ingenious ways you can increase the storage and functionality of your shower and make your bathroom time more pleasant than frustrating.

1. Use an over-the-door shoe organiser

Not for you shoes – use the organiser to hold your various bottles, razors, and combs. The best part is that it keeps them separated, so when you reach for the shampoo, you won’t unwittingly knock out the conditioner – inevitably landing painfully on you big toe!

If your shoe organiser doesn’t have a hook use a trouser hanger to clip it up.

2. Hang products from the curtain rod

You can use curtain rings with clips to hang your bottles and loofahs.

3. Use hooks or key rings to make your existing shower caddy more functional

Adding some hooks or key rings to your caddy will give you more places to hang products and washcloths, and is a great alternative to the last tip if you don’t have a shower with a curtain. Just make holes at the sealed ends of your shampoo tubes and then you can just open and squeeze instead of having to hold it with slippery hands.

4. Use a plastic cup to hold razors and toothbrushes

There is nothing grosser than when your toothbrush falls through the bars in the caddy onto the shower floor or drain, no matter how clean your shower is. Punch some holes in the bottom of the cup so it doesn’t collect water.

5. Use nail polish to prevent rust

Rust tends to build up on the base of cans of products such as shaving cream when kept in the shower (or anywhere in the bathroom for that matter). Paint around the exposed metal base with clear nail polish to prevent rust, and the inevitable rust stain rings they leave behind.

6. Use the steam to remove creases from clothes

If you’re running late or travelling and don’t have an iron, hang up your clothes in the bathroom while you shower. The steam from the shower will help the creases fall out, especially on lighter fabrics.
