Divorced couple get engaged again – could you do the same?

It’s one of those age-old questions: would (or should) you get back together with a former spouse?

Marriage splits can be awful, but with every ending there’s a chance for a new beginning – and Jeffrey Agan Sr took his chance on a new beginning with his ex-wife Lorrie Agan, when he proposed to her (again) this Christmas.

The best love stories never seem to follow a conventional path, and this one is no different.

According to Buzzfeed, the Agan’s were first married in 1989. During their 25-year marriage, the couple had eight children, before divorcing in 2014.

“They fought, separated, divorced, and it tore the family apart. Each of us felt like we had to cope with the destruction in different ways, and on our own,” their 21-year-old son, Jeffrey Agan Jr, told BuzzFeed.

Many years later, the Agan’s began dating again, and just before Christmas, Jeffrey Sr. popped the question in a heart-warming proposal that has now been viewed on Twitter over 9.59 million times and shared more than 207,000 times.

While son Jeffrey had no idea what was about to happen at the family’s Christmas gathering, he managed to whip his phone and record the entire proposal.

The video shows Jeffrey Sr giving Lorrie a framed picture of a poem he’d written. As she reads the poem aloud, she questions “is it a pizza?”, before dissolving into tears, dropping to her knees, hugging him and declaring “YES!”.

“When I tweeted the tweet, I expected like, six favourites from close friends,” Jeffrey Jr. said. “I never anticipated for it to go viral! So many people have shared similar stories, or asked to support them, it’s started to feel like the whole world ships Jeff and Lorrie!”

Buoyed on by the global support for his parents’ new reignited love, Jeffrey Jr has started a GoFundMe campaign to fund his parents’ second wedding.

“We’re wanting to throw them a dream wedding, to thank them for all the sacrifices they’ve made for us kids,” he said.

“Things were hard, tight, and tough for us as a family, but we never went hungry and they’ve spent so much time trying to dig us out of the dirt. They’ve invested in our success and our futures at the expense of their own wants and needs. I’ve made a Gofundme in response to requests to create one, so people can contribute to their wedding. I’m blown away by the support!”

As of 27 December, the Wedding to Remember: Jeff and Lorrie GoFundMe campaign had exceed its goal of $2,000, sitting at $2,200.

Ain’t love grand!

Would you ever get back with, or marry your ex?
