Co-host of Channel Nine’s flagship program Today, Lisa Wilkinson, has gone on the offensive against some online critics who took umbrage with a tweet she sent out.
During a speech of Former Prime Minister John Howard where he defending his decision while PM to send Australian troops to Iraq, Lisa sent out this tweet:
This press conference by former PM John Howard is a reminder of what a master politician he was. And still is. #ausvotes

The tweet caught fire online resulting in many firing back at Lisa over some of the other choices that John Howard made while he was in the top job.
@Lisa_Wilkinson Ahem…work choices? PM who lost his seat….. Children overboard……

@Lisa_Wilkinson your tweet was unwise in the face of hideous war crime. Million dead and ur banging on abt masterful pollie. Enough said.

Lisa even got into a “twitter fight” with one of her critics
@Lisa_Wilkinson @annabelcrabb This observation explains, in part, why 9’s election night coverage was the worst in the history of ever.

For a writer and film-maker @4thMesaTweet – someone who deals in the creative arts – I’m amazed at your gormless interpretation of my tweet.

@Lisa_Wilkinson I’d stack my 28 years of Oz & international journalism against your CV any day. But I was rude. I apologise unreservedly.

But here’s the thing @4thMesaTweet When we apologise “unreservedly” we don’t take a swipe just before saying sorry. Kinda blows the moment.

After reading what must have been hundreds of tweets about the “offending” tweet, Lisa decided to make a statement to all of her critics.
Can e/one pls untwist their knickers over my tweet re John Howard being a masterful politician. I marched against the Iraq War. Enough said.

Many are still tweeting at Lisa over the remark but like many comments made on social media, it will be forgotten as soon as someone else makes another comment.
What do you think about Lisa’s comments? How do you feel she handled the situation? Did you approve or think it was unprofessional?
