Whiten your whites without using bleach or harmful detergents

White clothing might look crisp in the summer months, but it can be one of the hardest items to keep looking bright and new after a few wears.

Your sweat and natural body oils can become stains on the fabric, and if you aren’t the sort of person to separate your whites in the wash it won’t be long before other colours find their way into discolouring your item of clothing.

While most people would reach for the bleach, considered a wonder cleaner, there is a much safer, less toxic and DIY solution you could try instead.

Get yourself some lemons!

This can be used for t-shirts, white napkins, linens and even socks.

What you want to do

  • Fill a pot with water and a few slices of fresh lemon
  • Bring the water to a boil
  • Turn off the heat and add your white item/s
  • Leave soak for up to an hour
  • Run through a laundry cycle as normal.
  • If you want the item to be extra bright, get them out into the sunshine!

By using this citrus soak you’ll avoid having to use harsh chemicals and this will increase the lifespan of your white items.
