Christmas is here and with it comes the annoying buzzing of flies trying to help themselves to your Christmas lunch.

When the weather warms up the flies come out to play, and they’re drawn to your kitchen and delicious food.

There are so many products that you can buy from the supermarket but if you want a chemical-free option and something that you don’t have to spray around, try this trick from Instructables.

You will need
A clear plastic sandwich bag
2 1/2 cups of water
A bottle of lime juice
2 teaspoons of salt
Two or three paper clips
Some shiny coins
A bowl and a spoon for mixing stuff

Instructions
1. Add 2 1/2 cups of water to a bowl.
2. Add two teaspoons of table salt.
3. Mix it with the spoon to get the salt off the bottom of the bowl.
4. Add two or three squirts of lime juice and stir. There is no exact amount, lime juice just keeps the pennies shiny.
5. Pour the mixture in to the sandwich bag until it’s 3/4 full and drop the coins in. Seal the bag and hang it up using a paper clip and string.Done!

Do you have a trick that always works?

  1. Ria Young

I find keeping the fly wire doors at front and back of house quite effective. Cannot understand why new houses being built in Australia are not fitted automatically with screen doors. I had to specifically ask for them when I had a new house built.

The reason new houses don’t have a flyscreen is that most of them have exotic expensive doors, with a wire screen over it would wreck the “look”
Personally doesn’t worry me but that’s the main reason

What is important about the coins? Do they need to be copper? Or nickel? Australia’s coins are all silver now? Do they work just as well or do I need to search out some of our old cent coins which were nickel or older still pre-decimal pennies which were copper?

just shiny..the lime juice kept pennies shiny

SO can someone explain what it does

    • Wendi nichols

I can’t think of anything in this hack that would call the flies over to this bag it’s weird and I think it’s an urban myth

You’ve told us the hack given is the recipe
BUT Have not explained how or why this works ????
