Get rid of rust stains easily

Rust happens when metal gets oxidised and while some rust stains can be removed easily, some stains can be really stubborn. Have you ever lifted a can or even a pot only to realise it’s been rusting at the bottom? And let’s not forget those ‘stainless steel’ things that aren’t supposed to rust but end up staining your kitchen counter or even clothes. Some of the most common places for rust stains to occur are on clothing, carpets, upholstery, concrete, tubs, sinks, showers, and occasionally, stainless steel surfaces. Luckily, there are many ways to get rid of these rust stains. Places like Aldi, Coles and Woolworths all sell cleaning products that can help remove rust stains. However, if you prefer the natural DIY way, why not try this trick.

All you need is lemon juice and salt. For fabrics, lay your clothing out flat, and pile salt over the stain. Then, pour some lemon juice onto the salt until it’s saturated. Let that sit for 30 minutes before you rinse it. Some people leave it out in the sun for 30 minutes, but be careful because citric acid can bleach fabric. To remove rust stains from bath tubs and toilets, start by cleaning the whole thing with some soap and water and then scrub the whole area using the lemon-salt solution with a hard-bristled scrub brush. If the stain is too stubborn, soak some kitchen paper towels with the lemon-solution and leave it on the stain to break it down.

According to Get Rid Of Things, you can also try plain white vinegar by soaking the stain in vinegar for a few minutes, and then rinsing it with water.
