Life hack: Keep bugs out of your drinks

This is the situation you want to avoid.

We’re getting well into autumn now, and you’re no doubt making the most of the last remaining mild days you can spend outside before the calendar ticks over and the real cold hits.

You might be enjoying your backyard or deck, entertaining friends and family or just kicking back with a glass of wine while it’s still nice out.

However you’re spending your time outdoors, there is always one big downside: bugs landing in your drink. Especially in Australia, where we’re blessed with so many types of creeping, crawling, and flying critters, it can feel like an endless battle to keep your drink floaty-free if you’re outside.

Short of keeping a hand always over your glass or using children’s sippy cups, what can you do?

Luckily we’ve found this hack to keep all things with six legs and wings out of your beverage, so you can relax and take in the last of the sunshine. It’s so simple, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself!

All you need is a cupcake case, and a straw. Simply poke the straw through the cupcake case and place it in your glass so the cupcake case is facing downward, and you’ll have yourself a nifty little paper lid. It’s so cheap and simple that you’ll be able to do it for your guests too.

Do you have any other tricks you use to keep bugs at bay?
