Internet goes nuts over kids hand drawn gift to dad

So many craft works at school, not enough fridge space at home.

When your kids were little you were often gifted by little treasured they made at school.

Remember those? The finger paintings and collage pieces you put on the fridge.

Then there were the extra special gifts they expected you to wear. Macaroni necklaces ring a bell? What about those Easter bonnets.

Now you get to get those special things from your grandkids to treasure always, or until the next piece comes along.

One dad hit the social media waves for wearing something his son made him when he was in grade one. Why all the fuss? It was because he was then attending his son’s high school graduation in the US. The item in question was a tie son Dylan Olivo had drawn a picture of a Pokemon on.

It was the first time dad Robert Olivo had even worn the tie, but watching his son graduate was obviously the perfect time.

That Pokemon tie and proud father and son Robert and Dylan Olivo.

KVUE.com said Robert had joked about wearing it. “Me and my wife would joke about it – and told her, I’m going to wear it when he graduates.  That will be the best time,” Robert said.

“We were all excited.  I think I might have mentioned that I was going to wear it, but I don’t know if he believed me.  So I know he was excited once he saw me, once we saw him after he walked out of the graduation ceremony,” Robert said.

And Dylan said he spotted it no problem, and so did the rest of the world when the picture was tweeted.

“I was getting a couple of retweets while I was at my dinner after graduation – and I was like, okay they’re coming, I don’t know how big this is going to get,” said Dylan.

In four days, the tweet garnered 122,000 “retweets” and 432,000 “likes.”

“Whenever I had people from out of the state contacting me asking me if they could use it for their news shows, I was like ‘dang – this is really big.’  I thought it was just an Austin thing,” said Dylan, who said he added nearly 1,000 followers after his post.

Despite the cyber fame Dylan said there was a lot of meaning that came out of it all.

“It just has me appreciate what I have with my dad. Like he said, not everybody has it, so I’m really appreciative to have a bond like this.”

Would you ever wear something like this made by your grandkids?
