The reason you’ll be feeling nostalgic next time you buy a stamp

When was the last time you used a real stamp on your mail?

Australia Post is known for their great themes for their stamps.

Over the years there’s been so many worthy of admiration, and collection. Australian flora and fauna, historic places and faces, just to name a few.

Their latest issue is out of this world. Literally! It’s all to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Australia’s first satellite,

Launched on November 29, 1967, from the Woomera Rocket Range in South Australia, the Weapons Research Establishment Satellite was designed to carry scientific instruments for upper-atmosphere research.

We were the third country in the world to do it. And it was a beauty, completing 642 orbits while it remained in space until 1968.

The design is based on original drawings and diagrams relating to the WRESAT launch, and shows the launch rocket and the satellite orbiting Earth, and was created by Australian designer Nigel Buchanan.

These stamps are going to be available from your local Australia Post branch from next Tuesday, September 12, but you can also order them by calling 1800 331 794 or going online at Australia Post

You can also get yourself a first day cover, sheetlet pack, booklet of 20 x $1 self-adhesive stamps and a maxicard, all of the same theme.

If you are a die-hard collector you can keep up to date with new stamp issues and keep in contact with other collectors from all over the world at Australia Post Collectables.

Have you ever collected stamps? What has been your favourite stamp issue?
