Don’t let grease be a problem in your kitchen with these 10 chemical free solutions!

We spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so much so that it seems that as we clean up one mess another mess is made immediately after. It is a never-ending cycle except for nights when we go out for dinner and let someone else take care of the dishes for a change.

Here are 10 chemical free solutions to tackle grease in your kitchen with items that are usually in your cupboard already!

  1. Flour

When you have immediate spills of oil or grease, sprinkle flour on to the area straight away. It may seem counterintuitive to make more mess but the flour absorbs the oil and makes it a lot easier to wipe up.

  2. Baking Soda

If you have stains on your stove, simply sprinkle a light coating of baking soda and soapy water and scrub. The stains will lift off easily.

  3. Oil on your cabinets

Oil on oil actually works. Vegetable and mineral oil are both great to wipe on your cabinets because the oil cuts through the grease build up allowing for a better clean.

  4. Alkaline Cleaners

If you don’t like the idea of putting more oil on oil then fear not. If you mix Epsom salts, hot water, Borax and a small amount of soap or detergent you can use a cloth dipped in the solution to clean laminated cabinets.

  5. Floors

If you have noticed your floors are in a need of a good cleaning then try mixing vinegar, dish soap, washing soda and hot water. The combination of these ingredients cuts through grease and allows you to mop the floor easily.

  6. Dish soap and vinegar

For red wine spills or splatters from cooking, try a mix of dish soap and vinegar to clear up the stains.

  7. Aloe vera

Alternatively try using aloe vera to remove set-in, oily shirts that might be clean but stained an off white colour no matter how many times you wash them.

  8. Rubbing alcohol and salt

For materials we wouldn’t throw in the washing machine such as rugs and chair cushions, use 1 part salt to 4 parts rubbing alcohol and use a cloth to scrub the impacted area to lift the grease away.

  9. Lemon and oil

Mixing lemon juice and a vegetable based oil will create a DIY cleaner that can be used in all parts of the kitchen

  10. White vinegar

The natural acidity that works in a similar way to lemons makes vinegar an easy all purpose grease fighter when you mix it with dish soap or natural oils.
