5 easy ways to fix scratches in wooden furniture and floors

Wooden furniture and floors look beautiful but when paired with everyday life, grandkids and pets, they can get scratched.

It can be expensive to fix scratched wood but it doesn’t have to be – there are plenty of DIY ways that you can do in your own home.

Lemon juice

Mix half lemon juice and half vegetable oil in a bowl. Apply a large amount of the mixture on a clean cloth and work in the scratch, going with the grain.

Tea bags

Soak the darkest tea bag you have in hot water for a few minutes then squeeze off excess liquid and rub it into the scratch. Wipe off any excess liquid and repeat as many times as needed.

Iodine

Paint iodine in the scratch with a fine brush and let it dry. Apply more layers if on dark wood, and dilute. for light-coloured wood with clear alcohol.

Walnut

Use a walnut or pecan and cut in half. Rub over the scratch with the nut, then rub over it with your finger until warm. You can also use the coloured side of the walnut on the scratch.

Vinegar and olive oil

This handy hint should help remove and cover up a majority of those pesky scratches in no time at all.

All you need is:

  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil

Mix together and rub into the surface. Dry and voila! Your table should be looking better in no time at all.
