With a warm summer coming, it’s time to update your sandals to make sure they suit your foot conditions (such as bunions, plantar fasciitis, wide feet and heel spurs) and compliment your clothes.

It was a surprise to me when I suddenly developed extreme foot pain, but when you have spent 60 years or more on your feet, it’s little wonder they need a little extra care. I’ve recently recovered from plantar fasciitis in my right foot, and it was two years of uncomfortable feet. So now I choose my shoes very carefully, looking for the styles that support my feet that will prevent this problem to return.

My list includes a lightweight and durable sole that offers excellent grip and stability. I also look for adjustable fittings on the shoe so that I can make sure the fit is always right. I’m particularly keen on a padded collar for comfort and stability at the rear of the shoe, but I also want to have shoes that are fashion-forward.

Here are eight styles from Homyped that suit different foot conditions and will update your wardrobe without causing pain to your feet.

Keep it classic

A classic neutral dark tan with intricate stitching, Avril will take you anywhere, and your bunions won’t mind. Avril has a C+ fitting with easy close fasting, so you can get the fit just right. That’s good for plantar fasciitis and heel spurs too! Did you know that tan shoes make your legs look longer?

On-trend pattern pop

Ferra’s striking black and white pattern is on-trend and offers exceptional support and gentle pressure relief over the sensitive bunion area. Incredibly lightweight and available in a D fitting, it features a natural rubber sole for excellent grip. Wide-fit shoes never looked so good. Pair it with your black outfits for a lively look.

Rope in this slide

The stylish Mecca mellow yellow slide has a rope trim and thick, shock-absorbing sole with an oversized statement buckle on the side. It’s excellent for tender toes as there is an elasticated insert for big toe comfort. The pressure relief shoe is easy to slip on and off, and it’s adjustable, perfect for people with sore heels and arches, sensitive toes and bunions. It also comes in black.

Everyday slides

The subtle, neutral sage colour of this Niche slide will team with just about anything. It has a podiatrist engineered Momentum footbed with three-degree arch support and a stabilising heel cup which makes it suitable for people with plantar fasciitis and heel spurs. The sandal has two buckle fastenings for adjustability. It’s the shoe that is so comfortable you will never want to take off.

In the navy

Add a pop of vibrant red to your navy outfits with this Monsoon lace-up look sandal. The soft, elasticated colourful straps will be easy on your foot, and the metal detailing adds a touch of class. Monsoon is designed to reduce tiredness and fatigue in your legs and feet and improve alignment and stability

Dressy neutral flat

Designed to cocoon your foot with soft taupe material, this C+ fitting shoe also has a high comfort heel accented with an attractive strap that offers heel spur relief. Kick these on and off with ease, but you’ll always look a little more ‘dressed’ when wearing them

The perfect all-rounder

Easily dressed up or down, Udel is a perfect white all-rounder style. It has a shock-absorbing midsole, and an extra grip sole that ensures comfort and protection against slipping, plus your bunions will not complain.

White kicks

White kicks, the shoes we used to call sandshoes, are now a fashion staple. Superfly is an easy update to your wardrobe, and it can be worn with just about anything. Use them to make your good dresses more casual, your shorts outfits trendier and your life more fun! Superfly White comes in a C+ fitting. They are light (some kicks can be too heavy for my liking) and have a non-compression foam sole that cradles your foot and absorbs the shock of each step. Superfly is designed for people with sore arches, sole and heel pain, weak ankles, and foot strain from pronation.
