The 7 ingredients you should be putting in your juice

It’s one of the best ways to start the morning, but how many of us actually know what we should be putting in our morning juice?

For most of us it consists of a few fruits or veggies.

But, it turns out there is so much more you can add to make your morning juice even healthier.

From chia seeds to spirulina, here are the 12 ingredients you should be putting in your juice.

1. Kale

No doubt you’ve heard all about how great kale is. Not only is it great for salads and smoothies, it’s also perfect for your morning juice. It’s a great way to lower the glycemic index of your fruit juice, although it does have a smell to it so you should try adding apple, ginger and pineapple to the mix.

2. Spirulina

It might not sound appealing, but this blue-green algae is fast becoming a popular super food. A great addition to any juice or smoothie, spirulina is well known for being high in protein, amino acids, Vitamin B, magnesium and beta-carotene. It also is a handy energy booster. There are a variety of ways you can incorporate it into your juice, although Dr Oz reportedly mixes spirulina powder with lime juice and freezes it into ice cubes.

3. Beetroot

Another popular vegetable addition to your morning fruit juice, beetroot is known for helping people with circulatory problems. Why’s that? Well beetroot juice is famous for its ability to purify and fortify your body’s red blood cells.

4.  Carrots

No doubt you’ve used carrots in your morning juice at some point. If you haven’t, you should really start. Carrot juice is rich in Vitamins A, B and E and beta carotene. Try spicing it up with some ginger or adding orange, banana, mango or goji berries.

5. Chard

You might recognise this spinach-like leafy green for its bright coloured stems. But did you ever think about adding it to your morning juice? It’s an easy leafy green addition to your juice, with similar health benefits to beetroot and spinach.

6. Ginger

Adding fresh ginger to your juice can help with a lot of health issues from nausea to inflammation, cancer and stomach pains. Not only does ginger help treat all of these problems, it also improves circulation, immunity and digestion. Ginger has a recognisable taste with strong, pungent flavours that mix very well with other fruits and vegetables in your juice.

7. Cucumber

You might have heard that cucumbers are basically just full of water. Well, they’re more than just that. And that’s why they’re a great addition to your morning juice. Cucumbers are excellent at cleansing your body and washing away toxins, and due to their high water content, they also help rehydrate your calls and balance your fluid levels. This makes them very handy at helping you lose weight and ease arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. It’s also rich in potassium, calcium and Vitamins A, K and C.
