Revealed: The best diets for 2016 according to health experts

An annual report from American health experts has ranked the best diets for 2016. The diets were assessed according to their ease, convenience, nutrition, safety and effectiveness.

These five diets not only promise to reduce your waistline, but can improve your overall health, wellbeing and physical function.

1. The DASH Diet

Taking out top spot, was the DASH diet. Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension focuses on nutrient-rich food which reduces blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease.

2. The Mind Diet

The Mind Diet concentrates on foods which specifically improve brain function. This includes lots of Mediterranean fare, with good fats and omega-3 oils. The Mind Diet claims to reduce dementia, Alzheimers and other cognitive disorders.

3. The TLC Diet

Otherwise known as the Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes diet, this plan focuses on healthier lifestyle choices. The TLC diet promotes good cardiovascular health, with an extra spotlight on exercise and healthy habits, such as giving up smoking.

4. The Mayo Clinic Diet

From one of America’s leading medical research institutes, the Mayo Clinic Diet offers people the ability to shed almost five kilos in one fortnight through holistic eating.

5. The Weight Watchers Diet

Proving an oldie is still a goodie, the Weight Watchers diet surpassed other commercial dietary plans in the view of health experts. Weight Watchers earned extra points for being particularly easy for dieters to use.
