New fitness craze SwingTrain will take you back in time

Did you love to hit the dance floor, back in the day?

Who doesn’t love to dance? And when you put together a few retro dance moves with the promise of fun and fitness no matter your age and ability, what’s not to love?

That’s the idea behind SwingTrain, a new, global fitness phenomenon that’s just come to Australia.

Founded by Scott Cupit, a UK-based, Aussie fitness entrepreneur, SwingTrain combines classic 1920s dance moves with aerobic activity. With a classic dances like the Charleston, Swing, Gospel, Electro Swing and Hot Jazz, you can’t help but get into the swing of things.

Cupit said that he came up with SwingTrain after noticing the success of swing dancing, with many people enjoying lessons with their partners or even just for fun on their weekends.

“This got me thinking, dance is probably some of the most physically exerting exercise we could ever do, so why not utilise these fantastic swing moves to get people fit?” he said. “We don’t want to scare anyone off, it is for all fitness levels and it’s just about having a fun time while exercising. Many participants have no idea quite how much exercise they are doing until we explain that you can burn up to 500 calories in just one session.”

Because SwingTrain’s new to Australia, Cupit is on the lookout for new trainers to take it on, so it could soon be popping up in your local area before you know it. Starts at 60 visited a Brisbane SwingTrain class with trainer Vicki Lawrance, to see what the craze was all about.

“We are already getting plenty of global attention,” Cupit said. “Red Bull has voted us one of the top ten fitness things to do in the UK. It would be great to see SwingTrain achieve the same rating in Australia.”

Does this look like something you’d enjoy trying out?
