Juices for common health problems

Juices really are one of the best ways to re-hydrate and quench your thirst but did you know that they can do more than make you feel good? There is evidence to suggest that some juice combinations can have major health benefits and it’s as easy as blending and drinking!

But if you’re a novice at juicing and blending, or you’re just not sure what to juice for your health problem, then you’re in luck – we have juices for some common health issues:

 

Alzheimer’s prevention

A study on mice at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer’s disease.

Apple Crisp Juice

  • Apples – 5 medium
  • Celery – 2 stalk, large
  • Oranges (peeled) – 2 medium

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.

 

Arthritis

The rich beta-carotene and vitamin C content in watermelon do wonders in quenching inflammation that contributes to conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

Summer Melon Juice

  • Tomato – 1 medium whole
  • Watermelon – 1 large wedge (approx 1/8 of melon)

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.

 

Blood and liver cleanse

Beetroots have been shown to help cleanse the blood, cleanse the colon and strengthen the gall bladder and liver. The high grade content of iron in spinach and beets makes them great blood builders. They regenerates and reactivates the red blood cells and supplies fresh oxygen to the body.

The cleansing properties of beetroot juice is very healing for liver toxicity or bile ailments, like jaundice, hepatitis, food poisoning, diarrhoea or vomiting.

Hang Under Juice

  • Beetroot – 1 medium
  • Celery – 2 stalk, large
  • Spinach – 3 cups
  • Spirulina (dried) – 1 teaspoon

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.

 

Digestion

Apples contain a natural laxative. When juiced, it helps aid bowel movements. It is most effective when mixed with carrots and spinach juices, you can expect bowel movement the next day. Regularly eating apples also will ensure bowel movements due to its gel-forming fiber, pectin. It improves the intestinal muscle’s ability to push waste through the gastrointestinal tract.

Carrots have a cleansing action on the liver and helps it to release more bile, which will cause peristaltic action. This can help to relieve constipation and help with digestion.

Though oranges taste acidic, it actually has an alkaline effect in the digestive system and helps stimulate the digestive juices, which helps to relieve constipation.

The Eye Opener 

  • Apples – 2 medium
  • Carrots – 14 medium
  • Oranges (peeled) – 2 small

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.

 

Eyesight

Deficiency of vitamin A can cause some difficulty seeing in dim light. Since carrot is rich in vitamin A it is good for improving eyesight.

Peachy Keen Juice

  • Basil (fresh) – 3 tbsp
  • Carrots – 14 medium
  • Lemon – 1/2 fruit
  • Peaches – 5 medium

Juice in this order for best flavour: basil, lemon, peaches, carrots

 

Osteoporosis

Pears have a high level of boron. Boron can help the body to retain calcium, which can help prevent or retard osteoporosis.

Blackberry Pop 

  • Blackberry – 1 cup
  • Kiwifruit – 1 fruit
  • Pear – 1 medium
  • Peppermint (optional) – 10 leaves
  • Pineapple (peeled, cored) – 1/4 fruit

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.
