Is snoring ruining your sex life?

Mar 05, 2015

A recent survey of 1,000 people found that snoring could actually ruin your love life. Amazingly, more than one in 10 couples stated that this insidious night time activity has had a tremendous impact on their love life overall. They found that it had affected their energy levels to such an extent that they were too tired to even think about sex, as their partners continual snoring kept them awake. Some even said that the snoring was literally a sexual turn off for them!

During this research it was established that the person who snored had a significantly higher carotid intima-media thickness compared to their partners, who did not snore, which is not good news for your long-term health. I am certain that most readers are not aware of this and probably consider snoring simply a “benign” nuisance. I therefore urge you to read on and inform yourselves further about this condition, which many people suffer from.

Just so you know what a carotid intima media thickness actually is – here is an explanation from Cedar-Sinai Hospital:

The carotid intima-media thickness test (CIMT) is a measure used to diagnose the extent of carotid atherosclerotic vascular disease. The test measures the thickness of the inner two layers of the carotid artery – the intima and media – and alerts physicians to any thickening when patients are still asymptomatic. Early detection may indicate the need for a more aggressive approach to managing the risk factors associated with heart disease and stroke.

Ageing is a contributing factor to increased carotid intima-media thickness. Other risk factors include high lipoprotein levels, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, obesity and a sedentary lifestyle”.

In short, damage to the carotid artery caused by the daily nocturnal snoring sessions may also stem from trauma and inflammation, triggered by the constant vibration of the chronic “snorer”! Yikes- get your loved one to stop it immediately if you can and help them protect their own long-term health.

Let me just repeat the problem once more: One of you is not only depriving your partner of sleep, but also possibly turning them off you sexually and to make matters worse, putting their health at risk!

What a sad and rather dangerous affair in the long run, don’t you think?

There are many gadgets out there claiming to be able to cure this insidious habit, but I believe, along with many other alternative health/sexual practitioners, that some simple supplements might help you to overcome this situation.

  1. Take Magnesium

According to Mike Adams of Natural News, many medical researchers have concluded that sleep apnea (snoring) occurs when the upper throat muscles are relaxing during sleep. Magnesium is a mineral that is required by the body to regulate the way muscles i.e. individual cells function. The question therefore remains; do the cells in your upper throat muscle get enough of this simple supplement in order to carry out their job optimally? Nowadays many people suffer from chronic magnesium deficiency and a dosage of magnesium citrate or chelate of 300mg twice daily could assist your cells in the optimal function thereof.

  1. Take 5HTP

Researchers have found that the serotonin pre-cursors such as 5-HTP for people suffering from snoring can help. Decreased serotonin levels are responsible for the control breathing and therefore by supporting the serotonin levels in due course, assisting “the snoring” to be overcome. By the way, sufficient serotonin production depends on good levels of magnesium as they form a symbiotic relationship. It is recommended that you take both supplements together. The recommended dosage is 100-300mg of 5-HTP 20 mins before bedtime.

An old folk remedy claims to possibly even reduce the noise by a few decibels and is easy to prepare:

Dissolve a tablespoon of pure honey and apple cider vinegar each in a cup of warm water and drink slowly just before bedtime. This helps lubricate your throat.

Another very affordable and effective way to stop the snoring is to obtain an “Earthing Band”, which you can strap around your ankle or wrist, plug yourself in and be “earthed” throughout the night. One word of advice, do not attempt this whilst you want to indulge in some hanky panky – you will end up in an unholy tangled mess!

I have heard several “snorers” state that their dastardly nighttime habit stopped, once they were earthed using either a specially designed earthed bed sheet or a less expensive product like an ankle or wristband.

This natty little device can be purchased online for under AUS$50 from Earthing Oz. It can also do so much more for your overall health than just stop you snoring, which I will explain in a future blog.

My beloved and I have used this device and travelled with it for the past 2 years, and feel that it does give us the edge – more energy and deeper sleep, allowing us to wake up refreshed and ready to go. We are also taking large doses of magnesium and selenium and I am happy confirm that neither of us snores!!

There are also some simple daily exercises to strengthen your neck, throat and tongue muscles, which you can obtain for free by sending me a message to [email protected]

Wishing you happy and peaceful nights.
