Cure your mouth ulcers at home easily with these natural solutions

Everybody gets mouth ulcers – you know the type we’re talking about. They start off red then turn white with an inflamed border on the inside of our cheeks, on our lips and under our tongues.

While not usually serious, mouth ulcers can be a sign of food allergies, constipation, acid reflux, stress and a lack of sleep. They usually go away after a week but in the meantime can be unpleasant and prone to even more infection.

Thankfully, the solution to curing your painful mouth ulcers is in your cupboard! Here’s how to get rid of them without a visit to the chemist….
1. Licorice root

This herb works as protective coating on your ulcer and soothes open cuts. It also has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Simply soak a tablespoon of licorice root in two cups of water for two to three hours and use as a mouthwash twice a day. Chewable tablets are also effective.

2. Sea salt and hydrogen peroxide

Both sea salt and hydrogen peroxide have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and disinfectant properties. Make a mixture by add two teaspoons each of sea salt and 3% hydrogen peroxide to a glass of warm water. Use as a mouth rinse, being sure not to swallow.

3. Bi-carb soda

Bi-carb is especially helpful at treating mouth ulcers caused by acidic foods or drinks because it neutralises acid and reduces inflammation. Mix one teaspoon of bi-carb soda with a tiny bit of water to make a thin paste and apply to your ulcer.

4. Honey

Honey can soothe ulcers as it helps retain moisture and accelerates the healing process. It also has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Simply dip a cotton swab in honey and dab it on the affected area and try not to lick it off.

5. Aloe vera

Applying aloe vera gel or juice on the affected area alleviates pain, promotes healing, and works as a natural antiseptic. It also has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.

6. DIY numbing spray

Peppermint and eucalyptus essential oil both have anti-inflammatory properties as well as the ability to cool the area, numbing the nerves. Pour two tbsp of olive oil into a glass bottle, and add 10 drops of both essential oils. Shake well and spray as needed.

 

7. Coconut oil

Anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and pleasant-tasting, coconut oil gets rid of mouth ulcers quickly. Simply dab a liberal amount of coconut oil onto the sore.

 

8. Basil

Chewing 5 – 6 basil leaves with some water every day will help you in getting rid of mouth ulcers.

9. Raw tomatoes

Eating raw tomatoes helps you in getting rid of mouth ulcers as the acid will work to counteract You can even try gargling with tomato juice three to four times every day.

10. Vegemite

Yep, some people swear by Vegemite to heal up their mouth ulcers. It stings at first but dries up an ulcer quick smart.
