Hollywood actor George Clooney has been involved in a motorbike accident in Italy, his reps have confirmed.
The 57-year-old star, who is currently in Sardinia filming TV series Catch-22, was involved in an accident in Olbia, the BBC reports. It is believed Clooney was riding his scooter on the State Road towards Olbia from Puntaldia when the accident occurred.
“A car (a Mercedes E SW) did not respect the right of way and hit him,” a spokesperson told the BBC. “George Clooney fell and slammed the windshield of the Mercedes. The car driver called the 112, the emergency number of Carabinieri, and they sent the Municipal Police, an ambulance and the Fire Dept.”
The Ocean’s Eleven star was taken to hospital and given an MRI scan, where the results were negative. A representative said the actor hadn’t been seriously injured and that he is currently recovering at home after being discharged from hospital.
Meanwhile, gossip website TMZ reports the star was travelling at 60 miles per hour and was thrown 20 feet in the air during the accident. Clooney’s helmet is believed to have smashed the car’s windshield, with the force said to be so strong that it broke on impact.
Clooney is reported to have suffered a slight trauma to his pelvis, as well as bruising to his knees and arm, according to La Nuova. His wife Amal was said to be by his side and a personal doctor will assist Clooney with any further treatment. He has a home in Italy where he is said to be resting after the accident.
The star is expected to make a full recovery and there shouldn’t be any impacts to his busy filming schedule. Catch-22 is expected to air in 2019 and is the only major project the star is currently working on. He isn’t the only celebrity in recent times to be involved in a car accident.
Earlier this year, actor Will Ferrell was caught up in a two-car crash in California. During that accident, the star was one of three passengers in a chauffeur-driven SUV, with it was struck on the side by another vehicle.
