8 spices that will help you lose weight

Ditch salad and instead eat curry! How does this weight-loss tip sound to you? Experts are now saying that you should incorporate spices into your diet to help you lose weight. In fact, apparently consuming a spicy meal with peppers and chillies can burn the same amount of calories as a 20-minute walk. This is because the spices in Indian and Asian food help to speed metabolic rate, suppress appetite and stops fat cells from reappearing after weight loss. Plus these spices can make a homemade meal taste amazing.

Certain spices are particularly helpful to add to your pantry when you’re on a mission to slim down. With this in mind, here are eight spices to try now!

1. Cayenne Pepper

It helps fight weight gain and obesity. Apparently the capsaicin’s heat can help with a process called thermogenesis where your body converts fat into heat so you burn more fat, which ultimately prompts weight loss.

2. Turmeric

This spice has recently gotten a lot of attention for its health benefits. Its active ingredient is curcumin and it is said to stop the growth of fat after someone loses weight.

3. Ginseng

This is a staple in Korea and Chinese cuisine. It is said to provide energy, combat stress, fatigue and speed metabolism. It can even be found in capsule form.

4. Cinnamon

This is another metabolic booster. It has been shown to reduce glucose levels in your blood. It can be added to your curry or sprinkled on your porridge in the morning.

5. Ginger

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce fatty acids in the blood and normalise blood-sugar levels. Both of these result in weight stability. So add a sprinkle of ground ginger into your stir-fries!

6. Garlic powder

It may not help your breath but it’ll work wonders on your waistline. The strong flavour may actually help you take smaller and slower bites, as well as, research as shown that when you eat garlic it raises your body temperatures – speeding your metabolism.

7. Cumin seeds

New research has shown that cumin powder can help people decrease body fat and improve unhealthy cholesterol levels naturally. This is because cumin is rich in phytosterols, which are known to inhibit the absorption of cholesterol in the body. And just like other hot spices, it is said to temporarily increase our metabolic rate.

8. Black pepper

Many of us love to add freshly ground pepper to our meals and research suggests we should keep doing this. The substance piperine has a similar effect to capsaicin in chillies, which is what gives black better its heat. This heats helps to prevent the formation of new fat cells.
