Crispy apple and cinnamon turnovers

Apple turnovers are the best dessert treats!

These fresh, warm sweets are the best after-dinner treats you could have. They are super-easy to whip up in just 15 minutes and with only a few easy ingredients, which makes them absolutely ideal for those special events where you need a simple yet delicious meal for dessert.

If you’re feeling adventurous and have a bit of a sweet tooth, try cooking up a sugar glaze to drizzle over the top and make this dish even more addictive!

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet (25cm x 25cm) frozen ready-rolled puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large pink lady apple, peeled, quartered, core removed, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp sultanas
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • Pinch ground cinnamon
  • 15g butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg white, lightly whisked
  • Caster sugar, extra, to sprinkle
  • Vanilla ice cream, to serve, optional

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 190C. Line baking tray with baking paper. Cut pastry into four even squares. Fold pastry together to make a triangle and open back up again carefully.
  2. Place apple over one side of each pastry. Leave 1/2 cm border around the edges. Sprinkle sultanas, sugar, cinnamon and butter. Brush edges with water. Fold to form a triangle.
  3. Brush tops with whisked egg white. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 15-18minutes until golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream.
