Addictive chocolate and almond biscotti

This is the perfect homemade treat for your afternoon snack!

This traditional Italian treat is perfect for snacking on throughout the day or wrapping up and giving to a friend or family member as a homemade gift. It’s deliciously crunchy and the perfect mixture of sweet and salty. These are also super easy to make without much preparation time at all.

If you’re feeling adventurous try dipping them in some melted chocolate to make them even more decadent. The homemade version of these treats will make you never want to go back to the store bought option!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (150g) plain flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp baking powder, sifted
  • 2 tbsp cocoa, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup (75g) caster sugar
  • ½ cup (80g) natural almonds
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cracked sea salt, to serve

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160C. Line baking tray with baking paper. Place flour, baking powder, cocoa, cinnamon, sugar and almonds in a bowl. Mix. Make a well in the centre. Add eggs and vanilla. Stir until a soft dough forms. Turn out onto floured surface. Knead to combine.
  2. Shape into an 18cm log. Place on prepared baking tray. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Test with skewer if cooked. Leave to cool completely. 
  3. Slice into even biscotti pieces. Return slices to tray. Bake again for 12-15 minutes until crispy and crunchy. Top with cracked sea salt to taste. Serve.
