New Christmas treat that’s taking the web by storm

There is a large number of Christmas time treats that you can enjoy with the family. If you are a fan of the “winer” things in life than you might appreciate this updating Christmas drink that is taking the web by storm.

A lot of commenters on the internet have at first pulled a disgusted face at the idea of a red wine hot chocolate, but once tasted have been pleasantly surprised at its fruity, chocolaty, taste.

The concept is easy and can easily be tweaked to enjoy during the hotter Australian Christmas. Because we don’t know many that want a hot drink during 27 degrees or above summer day.

The basic recipe is:

1 heaped tablespoon of coca powder

2 heaped teaspoons of sugar

1 cup of milk

2 tablespoons of red wine

Heat the milk, coca powder, and sugar on a low heat until it reaches a simmer, careful not to boil it. Add the red wine and stir until warmed through. If you are after the warm version, you can pour into a mug with a dusting of coca on top, a marshmallow, or a dollop of whipped cream.

If you want the cool Australian version of the drink, let the mixture cool on the stove. Fill a tall glass with ice, or for extra loveliness some vanilla ice cream, and pour the cooled drink over the ice or ice cream. Stir around and add a candy cane into the glass and serve.

Does this sound like a drink you’ll try over Christmas? What are your favourite Christmassy drinks?
