Did you know you could feed your bones? And that goes well beyond drinking milk and eating cheese! While dairy is important for strong and healthy bones, so too are protein and vitamin D – and experts say we’re not getting enough.
In the lead-up to World Osteoporosis Day, the peak body in Australia has teamed up with some of our favourite chefs to develop recipes that provide everything you need to prevent fractures and the loss of bone density.
The campaign is titled Serve Up Bone Strength, and features delicious contributions from Maggie Beer, Luke Nguyen, Andy Allen, Nino Zoccali, Danny Parreno, and Lee Holmes, who have all donated recipes that provide a healthy dose of the requirements of calcium, protein and / or vitamin D.
Osteoporosis Australia CEO Greg Lyubomirsky says, “Poor nutritional habits including a lack of protein, low Vitamin D levels, and low calcium intake increase the future risk of osteoporosis. Serve Up Bone Strength is a positive step towards raising awareness that better nutrition means better bones.”
