Trump confirms royal wedding snub in tell-all interview

Donald Trump has admitted he hasn’t received an invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding. The US President sat down with British media star Piers Morgan for a major ITV interview, covering everything from his time in power, to his personal life, childhood and the Royal family.

While he only had good things to say for Harry’s future wife, he went on to dodge questions about her previously calling him a “misogynist” and “divisive”. 

When asked if he’s received an invitation to the big day in May, Trump replied: “Not that I know of.” However, not letting it drop, Morgan then asked: “Would you like to go?”

Trump replied: “I want them to be happy. I really want them to be happy. They look like a lovely couple.”

While he kept it very positive, Morgan couldn’t resist bringing up Meghan’s previous comments about the controversial US President. She famously called him “divisive” and a “misogynist” ahead of the 2016 election, and even said she’d be tempted to leave the country if he was voted in. Of course, she has since had another major reason to move away for good.

But brushing away the line of questioning, Trump simply replied: “Well, I still hope they’re happy.”

Harry and Meghan will marry on May 19 at St George’s Chapel, inside the grounds of Windsor Castle. A huge number of famous faces are expected to be added to the guest list, but it’s unclear if the number has been finalised yet.

Elsewhere in the chat, Morgan asked him if he’d call himself a “feminist”, and according to The Mirror, he replied: “I wouldn’t say I’m a feminist. I mean, I think that would be, maybe, going too far. I’m for women, I’m for men, I’m for everyone.”

The open chat also veered into Trump’s personal life, and he fondly remembered his late mother Mary Anne MacLeod’s love for the Queen. Asked what she would have thought about his upcoming State visit to Britain, he replied: “She had a love for the Queen. She had a love for the Royal Family.  She really respected the Queen, and she loved the pomp and ceremony. The fact is, she loved the UK.”

Trump recently came under fire for retweeting anti-Muslim videos from the far-right group Britain First. It eventually led to Britain’s PM Theresa May publicly condemning the President. But asked about the incident, Trump apologised on air. He told Morgan: “If you’re telling me they’re horrible racist people, I would certainly apologise if you would like me to do that. I know nothing about them.”
