Outrage as David Cassidy and Glen Campbell snubbed in Oscars tribute

Huge names in the movie industry, from costume designers to actors, actresses and producers, were remembered in a moving tribute video at the Oscars this year – but viewers have shared their outrage after noticing some well-known faces were missing from the ‘memoriam’ footage.

Stars including Sir Roger Moore, Jerry Lewis and Chuck Berry had a mention in the short video, which played on a large screen in the ceremony as Eddie Vedder sang Tom Petty’s hit Room at the Top.

However, while it’s unlikely the video could ever mention everyone, fans have shared their disappointment that David Cassidy, Glen Campbell, and Adam West didn’t feature – despite their contributions to the industry throughout their careers. 

The Partridge Family‘s Cassidy was mourned right across the globe when he passed away last November at the age of 67, following liver failure and a short battle with dementia. While he primarily starred in TV and music, he also had roles in four movies across his career. 

Meanwhile, Campbell, who died from Alzheimer’s disease last August aged 81, starred in the 1969’s True Grit and was even nominated for an Oscar for best original song I’m Not Going to Miss You in 2015.

Viewers were also shocked that Batman star West didn’t get a mention. While he was primarily known as a TV star, playing the superhero in the 1966-68 TV series, he also took on the role in one film, as well as roles in Robinson Crusoe on Mars and The Outlaws Is Coming. The much-loved star passed away aged 88 last June after a short battle with leukaemia.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: “Where was David Cassidy during the In Memoriam?” while another added: “#Oscars You forgot Tom Petty FFS, Della Reese, Jim Nabors, Adam West, Tobe Hooper, Rosemarie, Glen Campbell, Hugh Hefner, Bill Paxton, David Cassidy.”

Another disgruntled fan wrote: “Kinda miffed the Oscars ‘In Memorial’ section didn’t bother to include Adam West and Tobe Hooper,” and one added: “Can someone explain to me why Adam West wasn’t part of the memorial part of the #Oscars last night? That’s just wrong. You had one job.”

Elsewhere, Harlem Nights actress Della Reese, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Poltergeist director Tobe Hooper, The Lion King actor Robert Guillaume, Frasier star John Mahoney and Written on the Wind actress Dorothy Malone were more of the names surprisingly missing too.

However, despite criticism from many, others were quick to point out that the actors and actresses ‘snubbed’ were primarily known for their careers in TV and music, rather than heavily movie, like the stars who were featured.
