It’s been more than 30 years since they created this iconic pairing. Neighbours legends Madge and Harold Bishop sent fans wild when they reunited on British chat show Loose Women on Thursday.
Anne Charleston and Ian Smith, who played the much-loved couple, left viewers overjoyed as they joined forces once again to reminisce about their time on the hit Aussie show.
Reminiscing about their character’s most memorable moments on the show, Ian gave away a big secret from his famous wedding on the show.
“The biggest drama was that I had psoriasis on my hands so they couldn’t do the ring on the finger,” he said. “The director’s hand came in – that wasn’t Harold’s hands!”
Discussing whether they would ever go back, Ian said: “It’s manners to wait until you’re asked.” Anne then laughed: “I can’t as they buried me!”

Anne joined Neighbours in 1986 as Madge Mitchell – mother of Charlene (Kylie Minogue), with Ian coming on board a year later. Madge left Neighbours in 2001 when she died from terminal cancer in Harold’s arms. But despite her death, Madge still made an appearance in 2015 for the soap’s 30-year anniversary.
Ian was one of Neighbours‘ longest-serving stars, joining the soap in 1987. Across the years, Ian has left and rejoined the soap many times, first departing in 1991 before heading back in 1996. He left again in 2009 but has since appeared again in brief stints in 2011 and 2015 for the 30th anniversary.
People at home were in bits over their reunion, with one writing: “Wow how wonderful to see Madge and Harold again, just love love them thank you.”
Another added: “Omg love seeing these to icons on neighbours set. Their looking great. Neighbours Golden cast.” And a third wrote: “I always say that men get more handsome as they get older… look at Harold!!”
Alan Fletcher, aka Dr Carl, and Susan (Jackie Woodburne) also sat down for a chat.
