Cate Blanchett interview descends into hilarious chaos on live TV

American viewers got more than they bargained for on Tuesday, when Aussie actress Cate Blanchette appeared on the Today Show in what’s being described as one of the “wildest” interviews ever to air on television. 

Blanchett was joined by her Oceans 8 co-star Sarah Poulson as the two sat down with Today host Hoda Kotb to discuss their new heist film. The interview quickly descended into chaos with Cate and Sarah hilariously ribbing each other from the beginning. 

It all began when Cate glanced over a Sarah’s pretty dress and jokingly told her to “get a stylist” to which Sarah responded, “I borrowed it from your mother.”

The laughter only continued from there with the banter between the two leaving Hoda gasping for breath and calling for backup from fellow presenter Savannah Guthrie as she tried to settle the craziness of the interview and focus on the movie itself.

This didn’t last long as Cate yelled out “oscar winner,” pointing to the camera. “What did you get?” she asked Sarah. “You won an Emmy. One? That’s nice,” she added sarcastically.

“Sandy [Sandra Bullock] and I, we all wrote letters saying ‘please, give her something.’ Because when it comes time to publicising the movie, it’ll say, ‘Oscar winner,'” Cate continued before the three began to laugh once again.

Trying to wrangle the interview into some semblance of order, Hoda asked the actresses who had signed on first star in the movie, which continues the popular Oceans series made famous in the 1960s by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, and later George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

“I signed on first and then I tried to get out of it when I found out who the rest of the cast was going to be but they wouldn’t let me,” Cate replied.

“She sent me an email saying ‘is this true? You’re doing it?’ I said ‘yep’ and she was like ‘oh wow, I’m out’,” Sarah shot back at her.

This was obviously all to much for Hoda who could not contain her laughter as tears began to flow and the mascara started to run.

“It’s fine, someone will come and touch you up before you speak to some ‘real’ actors,” Cate joked.

Fellow presenter Savannah then came to the rescue squeezing in beside Hoda on the couch, which led to Cate sitting on Sarah’s lap and pretending she wasn’t there.

The hilarity of the interview was broadcast across social media as the Today Show kept followers updated on the the wildness that was unfolding.
