‘I’m done’: Carrie Bickmore and Rachel Corbett break down in tears on TV

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house on Thursday night’s episode of The Project, as co-hosts Carrie Bickmore and Rachel Corbett were reduced to tears by the inspirational story of a brave toddler who defied the odds to learn to walk.

During the regular ‘Good News’ segment of the show, Bickmore introduced viewers to adorable American toddler Roman Dinkel, who was diagnosed with spina bifada before he was born and had to undergo surgery in-utero.

The emotional footage showed Roman learning how to walk using specially-made crutches, leaving Carrie and Rachel, both 37, wiping their eyes, with Corbett declaring: “I’m out, I’m done. That’s me over.”

Pregnant Bickmore, who is expecting her third child, her second with partner Chris Walker, was also seen fanning her face with her notes as she fought to blink away the tears, describing the little boy as “an absolute champ”.

The footage compiled a number of home videos, shared on Facebook by Roman’s parents Whitney and Adam Dinkel, who set up a page dedicated to their son titled Defying Odds: Roman’s Journey, which has been liked by more than 200,000 people.

After drying her eyes, Rachel said: “Oh, that little munchkin, what a cutie. All right, thank God it’s time to go!” However, after being reminded by co-host Tommy Little, 33, that they still had 30 seconds to go, she joked that the producers had better “get makeup out here quick!”

Carrie has previously discussed her tendency to burst into tears on camera, telling painter Anh Do: “As people know with me I often don’t stay composed, people think I cry a lot – I don’t try and cry a lot, I think I just really feel a lot of the stories. I don’t know if that’s because of the stuff I’ve been through, but I find it hard sometimes. I never know quite when it will happen.”

During the emotional interview for ABC show Anh’s Brush with Fame, which aired earlier this month, she also opened up about her wedding day with Greg Lange and their determination not to allow his devastating cancer diagnosis to rule their lives.

He was first diagnosed at 25 – when Carrie was just 22 – after suffering a seizure at home and the pair tied the knot three years later, before welcoming son Oliver in 2007.

Greg sadly lost his battle with brain cancer in December 2010 which inspired the Channel Ten star to set up her charity Beanies 4 Brain Cancer in his memory, and she’s revealed they’ve raised $4.2million since she announced the campaign during an emotional speech at the 2015 Logie Awards.

Carrie found love again with TV producer Chris Walker and they welcomed daughter Evie together in 2015.
