It became one of the most popular weekend shows in history when it aired in England, and now dating show Blind Date is launching in Australia – and producers are hunting for 60-plus contestants to take part.

Hosted by comedian Julia Morris, the hit TV show – which will air on Channel Ten – aims to match people on personality alone, in a true blind date style.

Following on from the late Brit host Cilla Black, Julia will bring comedy on stage as she welcomes one guest to join her, with three others behind a wall answering questions in front of an audience.

They’ll then have to pick who they think best matches themselves, based solely on their answers. It can undoubtedly lead to some surprises when the wall finally rolls back to reveal the partner they’ll be heading on a date with.

Series Producer Becki McDonnell told Starts at 60: “It’s similar to Perfect Match, which was obviously so popular in Australia a few years ago. Brisbane is our first hit and we’re looking for people of all ages.

“Unlike other shows, this one is a real opportunity to get those people on – we want to explore all ages because everyone needs a date. We want to reach out to as many older demographics as possible.”

She added: “At the end of the day, they’re funnier, they’ve got more history and more going on in their lives. They’ve also been on more dates, but they may not have been on a blind date!”

The show is calling for big characters to audition for the “light-hearted” entertainment show, in the hopes to add some comedy value to the new series, and Becki added: “We are open to gay and lesbian rounds too. So all welcome!”

The auditions will be relaxed, welcoming potential guests to have a chat with both Becki and the executive producer, sharing a little about their past love lives and any potential party tricks they may have up their sleeves.

While auditions are only just beginning, producers hope to begin filming as soon as July, with a start date yet to be confirmed. Auditions this weekend will take place at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, with Saturday open to men, and Sunday for women.
