Michael Buble steps down from award show to be with son battling cancer

Michael Buble has stepped down from hosting another event to remain by his son's side.

Michael Buble has stepped down from hosting a music event, to care for son Noah.

Michael had received rave reviews when he hosted the Juno Awards in 2013, but due to his three-year-old son’s current cancer treatment he made the decision not to follow through with the gig.

Rock star Bryan Adams and comedian Russell Peters will host the event in Michael’s place.

The Hollywood Reporter announced the news, saying it has been expected as he had also pulled out of other hosting gigs since Michael and wife Luisana Lopilato first confirmed their son was battling cancer in November last year.

Michael had previously said he was excited to have a second chance to be the host.

“I’m just a kid from Burnaby, so to get the opportunity to host this incredible night in Canadian music, for the second time, is amazing.”

A spokesman for the event issued a statement about the change in hosts.

“Our thoughts continue to be with Michael – we respect his ongoing commitment to his family and look forward to working with him again in the future,” said Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Content and Programming, Bell Media.

“We are thrilled that his friends Bryan and Russell have stepped up to host this year’s broadcast and have no doubt they will deliver an unforgettable show.”

In February Michael and wife  gave an update on their sons condition.

“We are so grateful to report that our son Noah has been progressing well during his treatment and the doctors are very optimistic about the future for our little boy,” the message said.

“He has been brave throughout and we continue to be inspired by his courage.

Our gratitude to his doctors and caretakers cannot be put into words.”
